Volunteer of the Year 2010/2011 - Renee Deveau

CAPPA has always played a huge role in my production accounting career, starting with obtaining my Production Accounting certificate from Mount Royal College in 1984. Yes, way back then, production accountants went through rolls and rolls of tape for their calculators. I continued to take the numerous seminars (gas cost allowance, product allocation, 13th month,…) that CAPPA offered over the next 20 years.

Then in 1997, I was asked to be on the Government Liaison and Emerging Issues Committee by the then President, Dennis McRae. That started my volunteerism with CAPPA. A few years on the GLEI committee, led to me joining the Board of Directors (BOD) in 2002. While on CAPPA’s BOD’s; I was the Guest Speaker Director for a year, the Luncheon Director for two years and then the Treasurer for three years.

After a short break from CAPPA, I then volunteered again to be on the EPAP Best Practice Committee and the 50th Anniversary Committee which are in full swing today. I have found that volunteering with CAPPA has helped me in developing my technical knowledge of production accounting and has provided a wide network of professionals in the industry to have as mentors, as technical resources and even for job references. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time being involved with CAPPA.
